MedPal AI - GLP-1s move from weight loss to heart health, widening New Health's market
Our client MedPal AI plc (AIM: MPAL; FRA: Z1N), the AI-native digital health and pharmacy group, has noted news that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently approved Eli Lilly's GLP-1 medicine Mounjaro (tirzepatide) to lower the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, including cardiovascular death, heart attack and stroke, in adults with type 2 diabetes who are at high risk of these events.
This follows the results of Eli Lilly’s SURPASS-CVOT clinical trial, which followed 13,299 patients for c.5 years. The study reported an 8% lower rate of cardiovascular death, heart attack or stroke for Mounjaro versus Trulicity (dulaglutide), itself a GLP-1 treatment with established cardiovascular benefit.
The significance of the FDA approval is that the addressable market for GLP-1 medicines, having so far been focussed on weight loss and diabetes, is now expanding into a huge new area for MedPal’s dedicated GLP-1 clinic, New Health. New Health already dispenses Mounjaro through MedPal’s direct arrangements as an authorised purchaser of Eli Lilly products.
Eli Lilly estimates that as many as one in three adults with type 2 diabetes in the US has undetected cardiovascular disease. The new indication for Mounjaro (which currently has c.79% of the UK GLP-1 market) opens it up to this much larger population of patients at high cardiovascular risk, well beyond weight management. Also, the UK opportunity is believed to be of similar scale, with more than 4.7 million people in the country diagnosed with diabetes, c.90% with type 2. On the same one in three basis, MedPal estimates that c.1.4 million UK adults could fall within the population addressed by the new indication.
Meanwhile, The European Medicines Agency added the cardiovascular outcome data to Mounjaro's EU product information in June 2026, and Eli Lilly has stated that regulatory submissions based on the trial are under review in additional markets. However, no equivalent UK label change has yet been announced and there can be no certainty as to whether or when one will occur.

New Health stocking up
In other news, following the UK approval of Eli Lilly's once daily oral GLP-1 tablet, Foundayo, on 10th August, MedPal has made the medicine available on New Health, which began offering it in the first days of UK commercial supply. As with all GLP-1 receptor agonists, Foundayo is a prescription-only medication and it is not yet available on the NHS, only privately via companies like MedPal.
Weight loss is an area upon which MedPal has been strongly focussed, launching its dedicated brand and website New Health in May. This is to take advantage of the high forecast growth, with analysts at Grand View Research suggesting that the UK prescription weight-loss medications market will grow at a CAGR of 24.85% up to 2033, from c.£313 million in 2025 to c.£1.85 billion. Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley Research has forecast that the global GLP-1 market could reach c.£140 billion by 2035.
As announced recently, New Health generated over £180,000 of private prescription revenue in July 2026 following only three weeks of marketing. This equates to an annualised run rate of over £2.2 million, with MedPal’s total group annualised recurring revenue run rate being reported as c.£8.6 million.
With MedPal’s financial year having just ended yesterday, we look forward to a closing trading update for what was the firm’s first year of active trading.
